 Pavilion Design Art Basel

Design for an inflatable pavilion for Alexandra Pirici’s performative environment “Aggregate” during Art Basel Messeplatz 2019

The pavilion was designed in relation with the performative environment, influenced by Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes and medical isolation spaces. Built from a pneumatic structure, the shape is defined by soft, organic lines creating a contrast with the geometric, grid-like environment around the Messeplatz. Conceived as an assemblage, the smaller spaces emerge from the bigger form, hinting at the process of viral replication or multiplication from “Aggregate”.  The flexible and translucent surface of the overall shape functions as protective membrane, a semi transparent shell which creates a warm space, allowing sunlight to flood the inside and nurture the living environment.
